The Holy-Grail of Putter CollectiblesPing putters have become what baseball cards are are to millions of kids and adults all across the country. A true collectible. On any given weekend you can find the collector’s driving from yard sale to yard sale in search of one of the many holy-grails that exist in the Ping Putter Collector’s world Ping Putter Collector’s Guide (by: Lumpy)Only problem is that finding a Ping Putter Guide to tell you anything about the putter you just bought for $1.50 our your neighbor is sometimes a harder find then the actual putter itself. So when an MGS reader sent us this copy of a Ping Putter Collector’s Manual from a popular putter forum called we felt like we had to share it with the rest of you guys.

Butterfly supports table tennis and ping pong clubs in North America where players can learn, train, and compete. The great sport of table tennis is blossoming in popularity, reaching generations young and old. Hoboken Table Tennis (HiTT) is Hoboken’s first social ping pong club.

If you are a putter collector you most likely have already heard of the site but if not go check it out. They have some great info about almost every putter maker both big and small. From what we knowthe writer of the book goes by the name Lumpy, and here is a quote from Lumpy about the Ping Putter Guide that he has put together:“I am finally ready to post my book on Ping putters that I started putting together a few years ago after years & years of collecting & searching for info.I spent many years working on putting the pieces together for this book. I have never desired to nor will ever desire to make this book available for sale. It contains original ads & a few photos that were provided to me by other collectors/sources for the book. Most of the photos in the book were taken by me of items that passed through me to other collectors or pieces I owned at one time or another. I have no desire profiting from someone else’s work & really feel as if I have no right to.I think putting my reference guide on this website for everyone to have free access to would – for me – complete a long journey that I have spent helping others find out facts about the early Ping putters.”Lumpy Save ItPrint ItPass It OnThis document is in the form of a PDFso you can save it to your computer and read it whenever you like or you can print it off and make your own book out of the PDF to put on the shelf in your office or shop.

And if you know someone else you think might like the info make sure to send them a link to the Ping Putter Guide. And oh yeahgo tell Lumpy thanks over at if you get a chance.

Below is a example of one of the PDF’s printed out, you can click on the book or the link below it to download the Ping Putter Guide.Click Here: To Download The Ping Collector’s Manual. The guide by “Lumpy” was very interesting. I found some family clubs and was delighted to learn about them. Most of the clubs are vintage Wilson except for the Ping Anser Dalehead which appears to have been 1966. It has the patent # D207227 on top of the cavity followed by KARSTEN MFC CORP, PHOENIX, ARIZ 85029, MADE IN USAIt also has the slot line on the sole. THE GRIP IS PRO ONLY WITH THE TEARDROP GOLF PRIDE stamp on top.

I am amazed how nice the grip still looks after so many years. I am not sure of the metal content so I decided not to clean it. The chrome shaft itself is about 32 inches long. I think my mother used this right handed putter a few times. Does anyone know if the clubs were the same for men and women?

I recently picked up a LEFT-HANDED Anser Ping putter from a flea market, appears to be legit to me. I downloaded the guide but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to cover this particular putter.

It has the “Made in U.S.A.” stamp on the ridge above the cavity (Same as the KBI BeNi & BeCu but different cavity writing). The cavity reads as follows,U.S. Patent Number D207227KARSTEN MFG.

CORPPhoenix, AZ85029I can’t seem to pinpoint what version this is. The patent number seems to be one from the earlier Anser models but I have been unable to figure out what model this exactly is.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much! My father-in-law Robert Gleason had many shows in his television career in Seattle/Tacoma on KTNT TV. He produced the Brakeman Bill show. He filled in as Boxcar Bob. For a while he was President of the Tacoma golf club. On the Bob Gleason show he would interview people. Ellenor Rosevelt.

His favorite story that he always seemed to told after we had had a few was when he interviewed Karstan and after the interview they played a round of golf that my father-in law won. Karstan gave him his putter. Its is from Scottsdale. Is anyone still moderating this site? I am unable to locate the PDF file here or on the puttertalk site.

My reason for asking? On the cover of the book above, I have the putter in the lower right corner of the cover, next to the advertisement. I think it is a Redwood City putter, transitional maybe? But, it is the exact putter on the cover shown above, and I am trying to figure out exactly what I have. An older B series, but hard to determine the facts, all of the sites have no information on this type of model. Any information would be very helpful.

A rather interesting and worthwhile work procuced by Lumpy. It will end up in my library for reference. I happen to prefer Ray Cook Putters, Have used them for many many years and made more money with them in putting contests than anyn other putter!! I have a “hell of a lot of them” and they aren’t for sale at any price. It is my firm opinion, that people like Ray Cook and Stan Thompson never received recognition for their high grade work and inovations!!

Maybe “Lumpy” should do a book on them!! Check out StanGolfHistort.com and you will understand what I mean!!
