Well, first of all, it’s simply been way too long since we got a new entry in this franchise. Of course, creating a new entry isn’t that easy when the original team doesn’t exist anymore.

It’s very unclear if we’ll ever see a new entry in the future so this Collection really is the next best thing. Sony does realise this and made sure they packed this Collection with tons of gameplay.The Collection contains WipEout HD, WipEout Fury and WipEout 2048. Meaning that there are two main games (HD and 2048) and one huge DLC pack (Fury). The best thing about this is that WipEout 2048 was originally a PS Vita game so it’s the first time you’re able to play it on a home console. All of the games have been enhanced to support 4K and 60fps on your console, resulting in the best looking WipEout game on the market. The graphics truly are amazing so even when you’ve played the games before, you’ll be impressed with the amount of details that were added to the cars and courses.Start your enginesRight from the start, you can select one of the three games and start racing.

Of course, since the games originally released for PlayStation 3 and Vita, the visual upgrade is certainly something to look forward to but it might not be enough to justify getting this Collection if you’ve played the games before. You start the game with a rather slow ship and only by gaining medals at the races, you’re able to unlock faster ones. Right from the start, you’ll notice that it’s not an easy game. WipEout is extremely fast and the AI is incredibly strong, winning a race is hard and you’ll really need to work for it. Don’t be too surprised if you have to restart the same race over and over again.

Is this a bad thing? Not at all, the game gives you a fair shot at victory but you’ll really need to step up your game and learn the best way of controlling your futuristic ship.Instead of just winning race after race, the game does make sure you’ll stay interested. Conditions and rules change a lot during races. It’s not always your goal to finish first, sometimes you’ll have to race in time trials or zone races.

In zone races you’ll need to reach a certain point with the help of boosts before your ship explodes due to the high speed. This variation is key in the game and it results in a lot of fun while playing. It’s not your regular futuristic racer where you always know what to expect. In WipEout you’ll need to adapt to the conditions the game serves you and if you can’t, you’ll need a lot more practice to become good enough.Strong presentationWhen it comes to content, this Collection certainly got you covered but it doesn’t stop there yet. The visuals of the Collection are very impressive and can be considered as one of the better remasters to date. Everything looks extremely sharp and colorful, the 4K and 60fps boost really pays off, especially for the 2048 remaster.

Compared to the HD remaster, 2048 looks a little sharper and better but that’s only really noticeable in screenshots. While playing, you won’t really notice the differences and enjoy the incredible details that are added to the games.Unlike the visuals, the soundtrack stayed the same as in the original releases, there are some small changes but those aren’t worth mentioning. It’s impressive to hear that a soundtrack that was created years ago, still sounds this good. The electronic music is just perfect for the game and it only makes the races more intense and fun.

The developers of this Collection couldn’t go wrong with a solid soundtrack like this.Conclusion:The Omega Collection is the perfect example of a HD collection done right. It includes three great games packed with incredible content, amazing graphics and the perfect soundtrack. If you haven’t played the games before, this Collection is pure gold. It’s a bit of a shame that veteran players can’t enjoy new content but maybe, just maybe, this Collection opens up some possibilities for a future WipEout release.
